Seattle’s Top 3 Parks to Get Fresh Air While Social Distancing

December 18, 2020

It’s easy to get stuck at home during this time of year, especially when Seattle seems to rain every day! Coupled with the cold weather, you might not be thinking about how you can take advantage of those seemingly rare, cool sunny days. Here are three of the best parks to explore next time you need some fresh air. Stay up-to-date with what’s open in Seattle by using this website: https://parkways.seattle.gov/.

Discovery Park

Discovery Park is a 534-acre natural area park – the largest park in Seattle! Situated on Magnolia Bluff overlooking Puget Sound, Discovery Park offers great views of Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges. There are two miles of tidal beaches and many miles of hiking trails – one of the most popular is a four and a half mile perimeter loop called Discovery Park and Lighthouse Loop Trial.

Kerry Park

Looking for something smaller? Kerry Park is a small public park and viewpoint on south side of Queen Anne Hill. Though smaller, the park has a nice big view and overlooks Downtown Seattle. The view is considered to be one of the most iconic views of the city skyline. Kerry Park is made up of just 1.26 acres so be sure to avoid crowds by visiting during non-peak hours. Use PRKSeattle to find a few nearby parking locations and make your way over to this beautiful spot!

Olympic Sculpture Park

The Olympic Sculpture Park is a public, 9-acre park that is operated by the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) and is situated in Belltown, just north of the Central Waterfront.  It is a free-admission park with an award-winning outdoor sculpture museum and indoor pavilion. Currently, the pavilion remains closed until further notice, but the park remains open.
For your safety, the park asks that visitors keep moving through the park and closely follow social distancing guidelines, staying six feet away from other park visitors. The park encourages park visitors to wear masks. No groups or gatherings are currently permitted while at these parks. Although, you may still visit this park with your family following the safety protocols!
